Purba Paschim, in collaboration with the Mukti Foundation, has undertaken an initiative to stage Behula Ekhon—a workshop-based production directed by Sri Soumita Mitra—at Sridharpur village in Raidighi, near the Sundarbans. Written by eminent playwright Sri Ujjwal Chattopadhyay and inspired by the Manasamangal Kabya, the production was performed by local villagers, mostly women, as part of a grassroots initiative. The aim was to raise awareness about the dangers of superstition and harmful social customs. The performance was wholeheartedly accepted and appreciated by the local community, who participated with tremendous enthusiasm and spirit.
